The CND logo is one of the most widely known symbols in the world - sometimes known more broadly as the peace symbol.
It was designed by Gerald Holtom, a professional designer and artist and a graduate of the Royal College of Arts, for the Easter 1958 march from Trafalgar Square, London to the Atomic Weapons Establishment at Aldermaston in Berkshire. It is based on the semaphore symbols for the letters N(uclear) and D(isarmament).
